Infrastructure
RIPE NCC
Internet number-resource administration, LIR sponsorship and ASN support.
The RIPE NCC is the Regional Internet Registry for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. It registers and coordinates IPv4 addresses, IPv6 addresses and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) through member organisations known as Local Internet Registries.
IP6net maintains RIPE NCC membership to support its network and cloud infrastructure and to help customers with agreed Internet number-resource requirements.
Resource services
Work may include:
- Sponsoring-LIR arrangements for eligible provider-independent resources.
- Requests and administration for eligible IPv6 and ASN resources.
- RIPE Database organisation, contact, route and maintainer objects.
- Coordination of resource transfers or IPv4 sourcing where permitted by current RIPE policy.
- Reverse-DNS delegation and registry updates associated with supported resources.
- RPKI and Route Origin Authorisation planning for networks announcing their own prefixes.
Resource eligibility and availability are governed by current RIPE policies. Registration of an address block does not by itself make it globally routable; an upstream provider must accept and announce the route, and filtering or RPKI status can affect propagation.
ASN and independent addressing
An ASN is normally required when an organisation operates its own routing policy, such as connecting to more than one upstream network or exchanging routes at an Internet exchange. Independent address space can reduce dependence on a single connectivity provider, but it also introduces operational responsibilities for BGP, registry accuracy, route security and incident handling.
IP6net can help assess whether independent resources are justified, prepare the supporting information and maintain the relevant RIPE records under an agreed sponsorship or support arrangement. Customers should plan for the ongoing fees and administration as well as the initial request.
